If you haven't already, scrub a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar into the buildup. Was the buildup removed?

This will happen if more water is poured into the top chamber than what the bottom can accommodate.

You may qualify for a replacement if your system is within the 1 Year Limited Warranty, however damages from user error are not covered under the Limited Warranty.

The buildup you are seeing is most-likely ionic minerals that the Black Berkey® Purification Elements are designed to allow through.
