If you haven't already, scrub a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar into the buildup. Was the buildup removed?

The buildup you are seeing is most-likely ionic minerals that the Black Berkey® Purification Elements are designed to allow through.

If you are concerned about your Black Berkey® Purification Elements working properly, please perform a Red Food Coloring Test.
